When is theft from my car covered by insurance?
Theft from the car is only insured when you have the coverage “Theft from a car with violence” has been broken into. There must clearly be signs of violence, such as a broken window or a forced lock.
Is theft without breaking and entering also covered?
No. If there are no visible signs of force, there is no coverage. The insurer will only reimburse damages when it can be proven that the theft occurred by force.
What is the maximum insured amount for stolen items?
At Zurich, the compensation for personal belongings stolen from a car is limited to maximum €300, depending on your policy. We always check this for you in your specific coverage.
Do I always have to report it to the police?
Yes. A Filing a police report is mandatory and must be inside 72 hours after the incident occurs. Without filing a report, the insurer cannot process the claim.
What documents do we need to open the file?
We need: a copy of the police report, a list of stolen items with estimated value, photos of the damage to the vehicle, your policy number, and the date and location of the incident.
